for a healthy microbial balance

GutCare®

GutCare® is a direct-fed microbial solution based on a spore-forming Bacillus subtilis DSM 32315 strain with an inherent capacity to produce a variety of secondary metabolites.

Challenge

Efficient animal production is a balancing act of nutrition, health, and animal welfare, especially when reducing or eliminating antibiotic utilization. In this context ensured intestinal health is absolutely essential. Challenges such as diseases, environmental factors, and feed ingredient quality, can negatively impact the intestinal microbial balance, leading to slower growth and reduced performance. Microbiota imbalance (dysbiosis) but also overgrowth of pathogenic strains like Clostridium perfringens can result in different disorders in poultry and swine. Intestinal disorders such as diarrhea, wet litter, necrotic enteritis, leaky gut (impaired gut barrier function, intestinal inflammation (colitis), and poor immune status are impairing animal’s feed efficiency, growth, and their wellbeing. This leads to economic losses for poultry and swine producers.

Solution

Evonik’s direct-fed microbial, GutCare®, has been carefully selected from large strain libraries. That is why GutCare® is based on the spore-forming Bacillus subtilis DSM 32315 strain that has shown the ability to survive feed production conditions, withstand acidic environment in the gut, germinate and grow under intestinal conditions. These features provide the basis for a quality and effective product.

Benefits of GutGare® at a glance

  • Supplementing with GutCare® supports a more balanced intestinal microbial population in the gut.
  • Easy handling at feed mills and farms.
  • GutCare® survives feed manufacturing processes as it is resistant to feed pelleting temperatures, high humidity and temperature storage conditions.

What’s in it for you

Nutrition and health are closely linked in ensuring the well-being and performance of the animal. The expertise of Evonik in the field of animal nutrition gives us the advantage of extending our portfolio and knowledge to the area of animal overall well-being. In addition, as a science-based company, we aim to close present knowledge gaps regarding direct-fed microbials and their potential influence on the microbiome, gut function and animal growth considering differences in the quality and composition of the feed.
